About me
Kate Brayko, PhD is an assistant professor of education at the University of Montana. Her teaching and research focuses on improving literacy learning opportunities for students whose communities have historically been marginalized in the U.S. education system. In her most recent research, Dr. Brayko investigates children’s language and literacy resources outside of school, and explores how these resources can be leveraged in ways that boost academic language and literacy learning. Her work was recently published in Teachers College Record and the Journal of Teacher Education. Dr. Brayko has worked as a literacy educator in schools, jails, and community centers in both rural and urban contexts, including the Yakama Indian Reservation and Seattle.
